Expanded and re-engineered network environment to support rapid network/business growth.
Provided technical leadership in a department that was deficient in knowledge and operational processes. This was a new position, thus was an opportunity to build and re-structure an entire network environment.
Individual tape drives and Backup Exec were replaced by Enterprise solution for all 150 servers. The new solution implemented included Symantec Netbackup 6.0 and two HP 6000 Tape Libraries.
Upgraded the Network environment several times to accommodate the growth of the network from 150 servers to over 320. Upgraded tape libraries by installing and configuring a new Scalar I2000 tape library.
Implemented new media management software called Vertices to replace a deficient manual process which resolved the hundreds of manual logging errors.
Ensured a successful Disaster Recovery exercise every 6 months where all core system servers were successfully restored.

Implementation of disk-staging capacity for slower/smaller backup clients resulted in a
70 percent overall performance increase in the backup system.
Upgraded the Master and Media Servers to HP Prolient DL380 G5 Servers which resulted in an improved backup rate.
Raised backup success rate from an average of 83 percent, to 99.88 percent.
Replaced existing Netbackup servers that resulted in a 120 percent performance improvement in the catalog backup.
Recommended replacement of remote tape backup systems with a potential solution, using disk automated backups.
Created a rotation scheme for tape backup media, which will reuse older tapes that are no longer necessary for DR recovery. The result was approximately a 60 percent reduction in tape media usage and an annual savings of $250,000 per year.
Recommended expiring old DR catalog media, rather than keeping infinite retention on media, which resulted in a 95 percent savings in tape media for catalog backups.
