My responsibilities as a Territory Sales Representative were distribution of American Chicle products, quality control, and introduction of new items. I serviced direct wholesale accounts, such as Capital Cigar, McKesson Drug, and STC Distributing, as well as direct retail accounts that consisted of Longs Drug, Raley’s, and K-Mart. My headquarters experience involved Bel Air Markets, Albertson’s, and Save Mart of Stockton. My responsibilities at headquarters included booking ads, introducing new items, having schematics approved, and authorization of in-store displays.
As Area Manager, I was responsible for servicing existing accounts and prospecting for new clients. I serviced accounts by writing orders and maintaining equipment used for key duplicating. Working directly with store managers with merchandising and stocking all Curtis products, I was able to introduce new product lines in the store. Other responsibilities included handling defective merchandise, relaying problems to the main office and monitoring aging accounts receivable.
As Assistant Manager, I was responsible for receiving incoming telephone calls for placement of orders and handling customer service, replenishing merchandise, and handling special orders. I have had hands-on experience with personal computers where I used software for issuing purchase orders, purchase order receipts, invoicing, daily reports, and routine maintenance. Other responsibilities included preparation of State and County bids and quotes, accounts receivable, and supervision of warehouse and office personnel. In the absence of the manager, I handled accounts payable as well as opening and closing of the warehouse.
My responsibilities included replenishment and merchandising in paint, floor covering, home decor, garden, nursery, housewares, and seasonal. I supervised all Department Heads in ordering and presentation of merchandise to customers. Working directly with vendors on the telephone and sales agents in the store, I was able to keep an adequate in-stock situation during all seasons and thus maintaining optimum sales. Overlapping responsibilities involved hiring of new employees and staffing, payroll, and rotating to other stores for manager vacation relief.
As Operations Manager I had full responsibility for daily cash operations, such as daily cash receipts and reports, daily posting of accounts, and monthly billing of accounts. I was involved with screening and hiring of applicants as well as orientation and training of new employees. Besides operations I was also responsible for supervising Department Heads in ordering lumber, plumbing, electrical, automotive, hardware, and tools.
As an Assistant Manager I shared all responsibilities of General Manager, such as scheduling, daily cash operations, bank deposits, hiring and training of new employees, merchandising and replenishment of the entire store. I also had responsibility for ordering and merchandising departments, such as toys, sporting goods, stationery, health and beauty aids, garden, camera, electronics, and mens and boys wear. During this time I had the opportunity to work closely with our District Manager in re-merchandising two other stores in his district.
As an owner/operator of The Box Center, I managed the day to day operations of the business at two retail locations. This involved managing store operations which included customer service and problem solving, inventory control, daily bookkeeping and accounting, sales, evaluating and analyzing new products or services to increase productivity and sales, hiring/training employees, and the flexibility to be able to adapt and conform to the ever changing environment of business, customers, products, and sales. I am a very motivated person with the proven ability to learn fast and work well and get along with people. The business operated on a wide range of services and client base. Before committing into my own business I fully researched the opportunities and marketing possibilities. Through interviews with other business owners I established the customer base that I was to target. I was an Authorized Shipping Center for UPS and an Authorized Dealer for Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, Metro PCS, & Boost Unlimited.
